Last year he was known as actor Shahid Kapur's father but this year after 'Maqbool', Shahid is known as Pankaj's son! Anyway, to even strike a comparison is ridiculous, as Pankaj, a supremely gifted actor, has been around for decades, doing soaps and comedies.
Generations have grown on successful serials such as 'Karamchand' and 'Zabaan Sambhaal Ke', with which he is synonymous. His latest serial 'Office Office' is a big hit as well and has bagged various honours. His comedy with Satish Kaushik on the countdown show 'Philips Top 10' was immensely popular.

A stickler for perfection, Kapoor has always shied away from conventional commercial cinema. He completed his engineering course in 1973 where he topped college before joining the National School of Drama and bagged the 'Best Actor Award' in 1976. He did theatre for four years till a point when 'Gandhi' came his way. He was to play Gandhiji's second secretary in the movie and his character was called Pyarelal. In the same movie, he also dubbed for Ben Kingsley. As a director, he has serials and plays (more than 74) like 'Mohandas B.A.L.L.B', 'Wah Bhai Wah', 'Sahabji Biwiji Ghulamji' and 'Drishtanth', 'Kanak Di Balli', 'Albert's Bridge' and 'Panchvan Savaar' to his credit.
Kapoor's most challenging role was the in the serial 'Neem Ka Ped' and the characters he played in the movies, 'Raat', 'Rui Ka Boj' and 'Ek Doctor Ki Maut'. At present he is working on a serial called 'Duniya', produced by Rajiv Mehra and directed by Shrikant Sharma.
Recently, Pankaj bagged accolades unlimited for his performance in Vishal Bharadwaj's 'Maqbool'. Incidentally, his friend Naseeruddin Shah recommended him for the role! So long as Pankaj Kapoor is around, quality acting will never die!
