There have been a few actresses like her. She has ruled the industry for nearly a decade, has inspired artists to immortalise her on canvass, her 100 watt smile still makes the hearts of millions go 'dhak dhak'. Madhuri Dixit is a name to reckon with. She has given the biggest hit of the 90's, has provided some great entertainment through her sensuous as well as graceful dance numbers, and her powerhouse performances will always be cherished in the memories of her fans.

Starting with the Rajshri's 'Abodh', Madhuri got her real commercial break with N.Chandra's 'Tezaab'. The craze of the nation , 'ek do teen' put her up on a pedestal from where she never looked back. Madhuri's dance was as natural to her as breathing. She was effortless in her dance, whether it was 'ek do teen' in Tezaab, or the controversial yet hugely popular 'Choli ke peeche kya hai?' from Khalnayak, Madhuri deserved full marks in her dancing skills. But then she wasn't just a dancer, she was a performer, and she soon proved her critics wrong with some punch packed performances in roles like the ones she played in 'Sangeet', 'Parinda', 'Khalnayak', 'Ram-Lakhan', and the king of all movies, 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun'.

After 'Hum Aapke Hain Koun' came a phase where there was huge expectation from her films. Ofcourse every film wasn't expected to repeat the magic of 'Hum Aapke..'. Madhuri now decided to be more choosy in her roles, and take on more meaty and substantial roles. Her acting in R.K. films 'Premgranth' and 'Mritudand' was hailed by critics as one of her finest performances. Commercial success played hide n seek with her, due to some releases of her old dragged films and rumours of her getting married. Finally Yash Chopra's 'Dil To Pagal Hai' gave her the much needed solace as far as her repuation as a hit actress was considered. She also won the Best Actress award that year at many award functions for that role.

Currently Madhuri's fans are awaiting her two major releases. One is Sudhakar Bokadia's 'Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam' which has taken quite a long time in making, and the other is the highly anticipated 'Devdas' by Sanjay Bhansali. Whatever be the fate of the films, Madhuri is guaranteed to deliver a strong powerhouse performance in any role that she chooses. Her fans still swear by her name, and millions of Indians and those living abroad queue up to buy tickets to see a Madhuri film. Her status in the industry is unsurpassable and today's Kareena and Amisha's have quite a long journey to take before they reach a level that Madhuri is at today.
