JIMMY SHERGILL has coloured streaks in his hair. Vickey Lalwani catches up with him in a moment of leisure. Here are the excerpts from the short conversation that followed:

Why the streaks?
The streaks are for a film, which I cannot tell you about. But they are not just for the heck of it. It wasn't a change that I yearned for but I just thought it was time for me to put a little more of myself into my films. So I went with the look this time around. In fact, two of my films will have this look with a bit of variation.

Why did you do a film like 'Tom, Dick and Harry'?
You will be shocked to know that I signed the film without reading the script.

Why?
I did that because I had finally found someone who not only saw beyond the surface, he also showed the faith in me that I could do it.

'TDH' has flopped.
So what? It worked for me. It told the people that I could do comedy. I am receiving lots of fan mail appreciating my work. The other day I was in Nashik and a brigade of people surrounded me. It was tough but they were all trying to tell me how much they liked me in 'TDH'. My trip was truly an accomplished one. Right there and then, I decided that I need mass adulation. Critical acclaim bahut ho gaya.

You have changed.
You can say that again. I am not going to kill myself to get roles. If a filmmaker realizes that he needs me, he will approach me. Today, phone numbers are not difficult to get.

Which has been your best performance to date?
'Yahaan' is my best performance to date. In fact, I would say this is my best film in the last five years. The last time I experienced a similar excitement was before the release of Tigmanshu Dhulia's 'Haasil'.

Tell us something about your son.
He is two-and-half. It's a task to be around him and keep him quiet. He climbs up on beds and jumps all over. He has even fallen off them a few times.
