SOHA ALI KHAN is an introvert and doesn't believe in talking too much, but we managed to have a conversation with her. Excerpts from an interview by Vickey Lalwani:

Post 'Rang De Basanti', you have hardly been seen around?
I don't go to film parties. I hate the idea of putting on make-up and getting ready for an occasion. I only like to work. I maybe misunderstood as an introvert, but that's me. Even when I am working, I hate to look into the mirror. I leave that to my make-up man (pauses).

Go on...
But my mom doesn't like that. She tells me that being in the profession I am in, it is essential to look good before you give a shot. I am struggling to come to terms with that.

You left a corporate job to join films?
That's right. The whole process of filmmaking excites me. A three-hour film being made for one year, two years... it's so stimulating.

You did some potboilers but you got recognition only for 'Antar Mahal' and 'Rang De Basanti'.
We do roles that we are comfortable in. The camera picks up every iota of conviction. So now, I am doing roles, which I can do justice to. I think that I have answered your question! (Smiles).

Do you mean to say that you made mistakes in selecting roles earlier?
Not really. I have done just a few films. But yes, I am now beginning to learn what suits me and what doesn't. I don't want to categorize films. I will go with the script.

But such films are far and few between.
I am in a position where there is no financial compulsion to work. I don't have to support a family or lead a lavish life. I am doing things, which are fulfilling my creative instincts.

Initially your dad didn't take it well when you entered Bollywood.
He's okay now. Basically he doesn't understand films and he cannot help me, so he is very apprehensive.

Any man in your life?
I have had relationships in the past but to date, there is no one around. I am concentrating only on my career.

What is your next release?
'Golmaal'. It was great working with Ajay Devgan, Tusshar Kapoor, Arshad Warsi and Sharman Joshi. It's a fun film.
