Akshay Kumar has had two flops in a row - 'Insan' and 'Bewafa'. But he is keeping his chin up. "My next release 'Waqt' should go down well with the audience," he hopes.
Here are the excerpts from the interview:
Was 'Insaan' a mistake?
I don't think so. I know it did very badly. But that does not take away the fact that I learnt many aspects of acting from my role. In every character I play, I try to imbibe something. Every film is a learning process for me.
So you don't repent doing 'Bewafa' either?
No. I stand by every film, which I do.
What is your next release 'Waqt' all about?
'Waqt' revolves around the relationship between a father and son. I play the son and Mr. Bachchan plays the father.
Elaborate on your character.
I play a spoilt brat who depends for every small thing on his father. He does not listen to his father when he tries to make him understand. He does come to realize it but by then, it's too late.

How was it working with Mr. Bachchan?
In the last two-and-half years, I have done five films with Mr. Bachchan. We share a very good equation. I learn from him every minute. Leave aside every film; every shot with him is a learning experience. Mr. Bachchan is a phenomenon.
Priyanka started your career with you in 'Andaaz'. Do you see some change in her acting skills?
Priyanka is slated to become a top actress. I could sense it from the days of 'Andaaz' itself. She was bad at dancing then. But gradually, she changed. She has worked very hard at her dancing. She is blossoming into a fine performer.
The music has caught on, especially the Holi song...
I love that Holi song. On the Holi day, I was away in London. The people from my building raised a public demand that the Holi song from 'Waqt' be played. They are all very fond of me.
You were going to produce 'Waqt' in association with Vipul Shah?
Yes. But things didn't work out. I wanted to produce the film because it is very close to my heart. So I took a part of distribution for it. I took it simply if Vipul promised to begin the film with my father's portrait. He agreed and I am very thankful to him.
|
Any further plans in distribution?
No.
Why is it that you work with only a certain section of filmmakers?
Does that matter when I have people like Abbas Mastan, Rajkumar Santoshi, Vipul Shah and Suneel Darshan with me?
You were supposed to do 'Water'?
Things didn't work out.
You were offered B. R. Chopra's 'Babul'. John Abraham is now doing that role?
Yes. I did not do it, because the role was very short. I would have made an entry when the film was meant to be three-fourth complete. I refused it.
Where do you see yourself five years from now?
Kicking still in Bollywood.
