Will the can ever open?

There have always been and probably always will be movies but there are some that get stuck for ages and then unfortunately never get a chance to see the light of day. Then if they do, they either seem to be so stale that they are hardly watched, or not publicized and released in such a fashion so as to excite viewers into watching them. The fate of big or medium budget movies may still not effect the star cast associated with the product, as they have other ventures to bank on, but it is the smaller ones that are doomed if they get stuck for too long.

Some of these that have been struggling to see the light of the day for around a year now are movies like 'Mumbai Godfather', 'Hum Do Hamaara Ek', 'Matrubhoomi', 'Chess... A Game Plan', 'Maa! Where are you?' and 'Film Star'. If one looks closely, most of these star Mahima Chaudhary. 'Hum Do Hamara Ek' is a family comic caper directed by Anees Bazmee and stars other A-list actors like Govinda and Raveena Tandon. 'Chess... A Game Plan' is more of a crossover product that was in the news during its making but lost steam completely when it was ready for release. Co-starring Anupam Kher and Sonu Sood, this unconventional plot driven movie directed by Manoj Bhatnagar has surprisingly failed to invoke any interest in the Hindi film circles
Ditto is the fate of the joint venture of Sahara India and Vishesh Films' 'Filmstar' that has Tanuja Chandra holding the director's baton. With Priyanshu Chatterjee, Vasundhara Das and Aryan Vaid for company, this film too was hot amongst the film fraternity while it was being conceived. There was a brief round of publicity too with interviews galore but then all of a sudden there were no signs of 'Filmstar', hence taking along with it the dream of Mahima to be seen in an author backed role. Well, Mahima is definitely not to be blamed for the non-release of these movies, but the fact is that this delay has proved to be a big hurdle in her career progress.

The fate of 'Mumbai Godfather', 'Matrubhoomi' and 'Maa! Where are you?' are not bright either. While with the Deepak Balraj Vij directed 'Mumbai Godfather', one does see a sudden splurge of promos but then the movie's release date keeps getting pushed ahead. Seema Biswas stars as a fiery cop in 'Mumbai Godfather' but another of her movies that has been stuck for ages is Ashok Kumar Morya directed 'Maa! Where are you?' that deals with the emotional subject of children without parents.
Apart from the above-mentioned 'long pending' movies, there are certain others that have been waiting in the wings for quite some time now. Prominent among these is 'Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar'. Despite the A-list cast of Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty, it has not hit the marquee. Add to this the fact that the pairing was well received in both 'Garv' and 'Phir Milenge' last year, and still there are no signs of the release. The date was confirmed around the week of Diwali last year but then cancelled at the last moment. For a month after this, there was talk concerning several release dates and then a complete stop! The same holds true for ‘Gumnaam’ (unfortunately another Mahima starrer), a thriller directed by Neeraj Pathak that despite some fine music by Nadeem Shravan and Dino Morea as a lead hero, it doesn’t seem to be an exciting proposition for a release. 'Ho Sakta Hai', a film on 'black magic' is also following the same path, as it was all set for release up until a month ago but then it hasn't been in news since.

Will the can ever open? Will these movies ever release? Will the fortune of people associated with these movies ever get decided? We’ll just have to wait and see!
