Zayed Khan taken for a ride

Why is baby boy Zayed Khan being taken for a ride and that too in a span of just four weeks? No, we are not talking about the real life Zayed but the reel life Zayed, whose character seems to have been taken too causally by others in the movie, be it 'Vaada' or this week's release 'Shabd'.
While in 'Vaada', Zayed was first sidelined by Amisha Patel where she got married to Arjun Rampal in his absence. Meanwhile Zayed graduated from a kiddo to a man while minting money on Europe’s streets and to his horror found her married in India without an explanation or regret. After this, it was Arjun's turn to play fool with him by wrongly implicating him in Amisha's murder that never was committed in the first place. Poor Zayed paid so much for being obsessive and chopping off a man's fingers with a fork in his infant days when he was going around with Amisha!

During the next few days, matters worsen for Zayed with both the lead actors - Sanjay Dutt and Aishwarya Rai - in 'Shabd'; double crossing him in the "game of words"! Sanjay Dutt plays a novel writer who wants his latest book to be spiced up and for that he wants his wife, played by Ash, to do a 'reality show' with Zayed, make him fall in love with her, while Sanju baba merrily types away (Strange to see him using a typewriter in the age of PC! Or is it just for effects?). All this happens, just because the writer in him wants a new angle to his story and for this he wants events from the real life. Now anyone sane on this earth would but obviously fall in love with Ash and this is what happens to our sweet 'n' innocent Zayed, who gets trapped in the world of deceit!
Promos of the movie give an impression that Ash feels guilty, Sanju gets angry and Zayed turns obsessive (yet again!). Result? A 'no-win' situation for Zayed, who gets cornered again! Looking at all of this, Zayed should be praying that his long stuck-in-the-cans 'Idiot' with Celina Jaitley never gets made, else the title of the movie would well depict his condition in the above mentioned movies!

Talking about stuck-in-the-can movies, the ones that take the cake are last Friday's releases, namely 'Padmashree Laloo Prasad Yadav' and God-Knows-When-Would-It-Release 'Zameer'. PLPY could well take the honors for being the "most severely criticized movie of 2005" that would have won the awards hands down if there were any in this category! At least this is one movie where all the critics have been consistent in their comments and ratings. Billed as 'An insult to cinema', PLPY has seen the harshest word-of-mouth coming its way!
Other stuck movie is the Ajay Devgan starrer 'Zameer' that has Amisha Patel and Mahima Chaudhary for company. No one knows whether it is a love triangle, an action film or an intense drama. Or is it a mix of all three? Promos have been on for more than an year and this seems to be one of those post-Gadar movies of Amisha that is being readied for release now as ‘Vaada’ and ‘Elaan’ (both starring Amisha) have just hit the marquee.

Thanks goodness another of her release-in-the-pipeline, 'Mere Jeevan Saathi' doesn't look dated, at least in spite of being in the making for some time now. With credit to Akshay Kumar's pull at the box office, the curiosity factor involved with Karisma Kapoor's return to the silver screen, Nadeem Shravan's music that is expected to be melodious and director Suneel Darshan's track record, it should be smooth sailing for MJS. Welcome to the Amisha Patel film festival.
Another film festival that is soon going to arrive is that of sex 'n' sleaze with movies like 'Fun - Can Be Dangerous Sometimes', 'Sheesha', ‘Chahat - Ek Nasha’, ‘Classic - Dance Of Love’, ‘Mazaa Mazaa’, ‘Garam’, ‘Model’ and only about a thousand more! But there will be more of this in the next column. Till then, have fun while watching poor little rich boy Zayed Khan!
