Amrita Arora was the luminary at Mtv but not the toast in Tinsel town. Her good performances in her not so remarkable movies were starting to eclipse her rising star, so our babe Amrita decided to take a 180-degree flip.
Her decision to shimmy in 'Dilli Ki Sardi' for Babloo Pachisia's 'Zameen' certainly did the trick; she is now a major actress to contend with. Not only does she look good and act well, she can bust a move on the dance floor too.
The following is an interviews presented by Bollyvista:
BV: We hear, that you have recently signed a very bold film called 'Girlfriend'...
Amrita: (Laughs) It's bold all right, but beautiful too. Indian cinema is growing up. And even I am fed up of doing the goody-goody bubbly stuff. 'Girlfriend' is really something that has not been attempted on Indian screen before- a girl sandwiched between the love for her boyfriend and girlfriend. I play the girl who is caught in the web. Ishaa Koppikar plays my obsessive girlfriend and Ashish Choudhary plays my lover. That way, I have a few more bold films.
BV: Could you tell us about those?
Amrita: 'Rakht' and 'Deh'. Don't ask me who is opposite me and at some point in the film, I have a relationship with Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Dino Morea, Himanshu Malik. No heroine in Indian cinema has had so many intimate relationships in one film so far. As for 'Deh', it's a story about two couples: Mahesh Manjrekar and I, Jaya Prada and Dino Morea. Both couples have a big age gap. Jaya is married to Mahesh, but storms out of her husband's home due to some differences. Then, she gets attracted to Dino who is much younger than her. On the other hand, I am mesmerized by Mahesh because I feel his elderly stature makes him very protective towards me. There are a few intimate scenes, but nothing too shocking for words. Surely, you don't want me to tell you the entire graph of these two bold characters.
BV: Back to 'Girlfriend'. How did you get this role?
Amrita: Well, they had finalized on Ishaa and Ashish when I was approached. I liked the whole set-up. That's it (shrugs).

BV: Do you identify with your character in this film?
Amrita: No. But that's what acting is all about. It's challenging only when you step into a new territory. But I guess, this girl-girl obsession is commonplace in Western countries.
BV: You seem to be quite revved about this role?
Amrita: For obvious reasons, Indian cinema has been known to have girls who have been the object of desire between two men. For the first time, here comes a character that is the object of desire of between a man and woman.
BV: Are there any bold scenes in 'Girlfriend'?
Amrita: No. Only the theme is bold- the body language, possessiveness, obsession...
BV: Your next release 'Shart' with Tusshar Kapoor and Gracy Singh is looking quite rustic in promos...
Amrita: (Interrupts). This is one film that I am not happy about. It's taken a long time to release. It has been delayed by two years.
BV: Why did it get delayed?
Amrita: The postproduction took a long time. Plus, since the producers were from the South, they were unaware of how the market functions in Bollywood.
BV: Can you outline your future plans for us?
Amrita: Sure. Apart from 'Shart', 'Rakht', 'Deh' and 'Girlfriend', I am doing 'Team- The Force' and an untitled film with Mahesh Manjrekar, which would have only two characters, Mahesh, and I.
BV: Your career seems to be looking up, these days?
Amrita: Thank heavens and touch wood! I needed it badly. I think the Peppy 'Dilli Ki Sardi' did the trick. I needed a change because I had done quite a few films, but every time, I was getting lost in a crowd. I needed roles where I could express a gamut of emotions. I was fed up of playing a bimbo. Watch out for me in 2004. I feel it's going to be a good year for me
