Yesteryears' actor Rajkumar's son, Puru Rajkumar, is smiling at last. After a long time, he has a meaty role to portray on the big screen. In J. P. Dutta's 'Umrao Jaan', which has hit the theatres, he plays Gauhar Mirza, who is the son of a rich Nawab and a kothewali. Money stops coming in after his father dies and he is left at the mercy of kothas. He grows up with Umrao. He is Umrao's first love.
Life is good on his personal front too. He is living in with a Croatian girl Koraljka, whom he first met in the lobby of J. W. Marriott Hotel in Mumbai about two-and-half years ago, through common friends. It was not love at first sight. But they kept bumping into each other, and one day he asked her out for coffee. One thing led to another, and within a few days, they realized that they were in love.
Puru admits, "Yes, we are living in together. Kora's (as he fondly calls her; he still can't pronounce Koraljka!) parents are really sweet. We get along very well. When I first met her dad, he said that I had belied his expectations. He was under the impression that all Indian men are short and fat. We burst out laughing. My mom had a few reservations earlier, but it all settled down."
What about marriage? He says, "We love each other's company and are extremely comfy with each other. We have crossed all the ifs and buts in our relationship. Logically, the next step is marriage. But we haven't decided when we'll marry. It could even be tomorrow morning."
At the moment, Puru is keeping his fingers crossed and praying for the success of 'Umrao Jaan'. The careers of Abhishek and Aishwarya may not be dependent on this film, but the same cannot be said of Puru.
