Neha dissociates from 'Utthan'

Kumar Sanu's first production 'Utthan' has hit the theatres, but the heroine of the film Neha Dhupia does not want to talk about the film at all. In fact, she has disassociated herself from the film completely.

An actor working in the film tells us, "Neha had a problem with Sanu. To begin with, she was very upset when Sanu started marketing his film as Jessica Lal's true story. Then, Neha was furious with Sanu when the film's publicity campaign had one of her pictures with too much cleavage. She and Sanu did have a war of words, but Sanu paid no heed to Neha."

Chatterjee, who directed 'Escape from Taliban', says that Neha's behaviour towards Utthan is unwarranted. He claims that Neha knew from the beginning that she was working in a film, which is based on Jessica Lal's life. "I have not seen that picture which she is talking about and I don't understand why she should be upset about the marketing strategies. The marketing is entirely a producer's domain, and as long as it is not too blasphemous, no artiste should get miffed. At the end of the day, Neha needs to understand that this film is as much hers as Sanu's or mine. She should let bygones be bygones and publicize the film."

However, Sanu claims that he did not send out that revealing picture of Neha to the media. "I don't know who played that mischief. I have no bold scenes in the film. Why would I market my film like that? At that time, Neha's secretary had called me and I had explained it to him. I am really disappointed that she is not publicizing my film. I think her problem is that the hero and the director are small names. If I had big names on board, woh chalan maar maar ke chali aati promotions ke liye. But I have taken it in my stride. I am sitting alone for the interviews everywhere, but it's okay. I have a much bigger name in the industry and the people who see my film will see it for me."

Sanu adds that it is Neha's loss if she is not promoting his film. "I am doing my next film with Satish Kaushik which will have bigger actors. I had a role for her in the second lead. But now, I will not cast her. Why only my second film, I will not cast her in any film of mine."

When contacted on Sunday evening in Gwalior where she had been for a public appearance, Neha was very reluctant to talk on this issue. There is definitely something more than meets the eye. Eventually she said, "I don't want to talk about 'Utthan; nothing about it at all. No, I am not going to promote it. I have stopped talking about it in my interviews everywhere. I am staying off it, totally."

We insisted to know the reason and she admitted that the publicity campaign, which revealed her in an objectionable manner, was one of the reasons for her ire. "Let's put it this way. I am not too happy with the quality of the film, which differed at a certain level. I had been told one thing, and something else has been made. Like a professional. I still completed the film including my dubbing. I don't want to elaborate more on this, and would rather concentrate and talk about my other forthcoming films," she concluded. Sanu's original choice for Neha's role was Urmila Matondkar, but Urmila then opted out before the shooting got underway.
