Akriti Kakkar makes her presence felt with 'Dil Vich Lagya Veh'

Akriti Kakkar started learning Hindustani classical music at the tender age of five, from her mother, who is a post-graduate in the field and later from her guru, the late Shri Byomkesh Banerjee. She did her schooling at Springdales School in New Delhi with 87% in 12th grade. She gave her first stage performance at the age of five years and from there became a part of 'Little Wonders' of Kalyan Ji Anand Ji troupe later called 'Little Stars'. In Anand Ji's troupe she made her way through two world tours and about fifty shows. With 'Chham Se Vo Aa Jaye', Akriti made her debut as a playback singer with Vishal-Shekhar in the film 'DUS'. She also sang in 'Chup Chup Ke' a film by Priyadarshan, which starred Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor and Neha Dhupia. The music was composed by Himesh Reshammiya and also sung by Himesh, Sonu Nigam and Kunal Ganjawala. The song 'Dil Vich Lagya Veh' is making its presence felt on all channels. The admirers of her voice in that song recently caught her in Castle-9.

Akriti has so far recorded seven songs with Himesh Reshammiya, including those in his forthcoming films - 'Rocky', 'Apne', 'Good Boy Bad Boy', 'Millenge Millenge', 'Red' and 'My name is Anthony Gonzalves'.

The next big thing in the pipeline for Akriti is a fresh original album from Sa Re Ga Ma HMV, featuring the living legend Padmashree Ustad Sultan Khan Sahab, who blessed Akriti by singing the main video song 'Dhoonde Mann Banwra'. The album will be titled 'Akriti Solitaire'. Mr. Guru Sharma, who represents the younger generation from the family of the legendary music director duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal, composes it.

She was the winner of the 1999 Sa Re Ga Ma National Talent Hunt (Junior/Children's Special) on Zee TV and also crowned as a winner of various national level talent competitions like BPL Music Mania on Jain T.V., Sangam Kala Group.


Initially, she started off with albums like 'Ek Sapna' and 'Punjabi Pop Dhamaka 2000'. She sang for 'Baby Doll Chapter 2', where her song 'Rangeela Re' became a chart topping remix.

At eighteen years old Akriti released her debut solo remix album called 'A.TEEN' (A for Akriti; TEEN for teenager), featuring the hit track 'Jal Bin Machli' and also featured in the video directed by 'Colosus'. The video depicts a bunch of teenager kids having a blast. The album includes tracks like 'Jal Bin Machhli', 'Dum Maro Dum', 'Boom Boom', 'Ho Jata Hai Kaise Pyar', 'Tum Mile Dil Khile', 'Aao Na Gale Lag Jao Na', 'Come Closer', 'Lara Lappa Lara Lappa', 'Chori Chori Solah Singar' and 'Sheesha Sharab Shabnam'.

Next up her sleeve was an international project with Matter & Sa Re Ga Ma HMV; a movie called 'Barbie & the Magic of Pegasus.'

Another feather in her cap was the extension of her ability as a performer when she became a V. J. and sang for the top music channel ETC.

She has hosted a number of shows namely 'SMS show my song 7575', 'Nautanki Top 9' and a couple of film premieres as well. On-stage performances and collaborations included gigs with the likes of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Shivamani, Jasbir Jassi, KK, Anand Raaj Anand and Bollywood's latest sensation Himesh Reshammiya. She did about 200 shows over the last two years with corporate houses like Maruti Udyog, Hero Honda, Yamaha, Samsung, Sa Re Ga Ma HMV, Sony, Hindustan Times, Mahindra & Mahindra and many more.
