Lowell, MA puts Bollywood on the US map once again. Bollyvista was invited to watch a special presentation of a Bollywood dance class on February 26, 2006.
The class was established two years ago. The two instructors and 15 students ranging in age from 16-30 practice for several hours every Friday night on a mix of dances based on filmy songs from Bollywood.
Instructors, sisters Sheetal and Shilpa Kochavara tell us that "it's not only dancing but acting but emotions and expressions are required elements too."
"We have a lot of fun especially acting out our parts. Everyone gets involved and gives suggestions to better the steps or the production. Teamwork is the key."
The performances were brilliant. Sheetal and Shilpa danced their energetic rendition of the rhythmic Mere Chandni Tu Sona from 'Silsiilay - Affairs Of The Heart'. Then four of the students - Amber Franey, Sopheab Bo, Michael Olson and Roderigo Fernandes joined them for an amazing version of the Shah Rukh Khan/Aishwarya Rai song Ish Kamina from 'Shakti'.
Guaranteed, choreographer/director Farah Khan would love to have these dancers for one of her films.
Who are some of their favorite Bollywood actors? Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan were at the top of the list.
