Thousands of fans came from miles around to attend the 2nd Annual Sangeet Indian music awards (The first was in London, UK) on Saturday at the Oakland Arena in San Francisco, California, USA to see their favorite singers (which included Pakistani singer Faakhir) and Bollywood film stars. Screams and overwhelming applause filled the air when the likes of Baadshah Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee and Salman Khan graced the stage to not only hand out awards, but also to lip-sync and dance in several production numbers.

The show was actually a concert, a sequel to the 2002 Heartthrobs tour (starring Hrithik Roshan) and the 2004 Temptation tour, which also featured Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee.

Mehta Entertainment billed the event as the Indian Grammys, but it will probably take several years for the show to attain that sort of prestige.

The MCs, video jockey Anusha and singer Shaan tried to keep the audience focused on the music awards, but their requests to "calm down" were mostly in vain, whether they spoke in Hindi or English.

The show was a success and the celebrities invariably thanked "San Francisco" for its adulation.
