Film On Gujarat Riots To Screen At Pusan Festival

Pusan International Film Festival, the largest and most prestigious film festival in Asia, has invited 'Parzania', a film by Rahul Dholakia, to have its world premier. The festival, very popular amongst the festival circuits is hosted in the scenic port near the south Korean capitol Seoul. The 10th international film festival will commence from 6th to 14th October.

'Parzania' is the breathtaking untold story of a Parsi family trapped in the communal violence in Gujarat, where their 10 year old son comes up missing. Starring Naseeruddin Shah, Sarika and Emmy award winning actor Corin Nemic, 'Parzania' tells a powerful story that has, in test screenings, provoked an extremely emotional response crossing all cultural and age boundaries across the world.

This song less film in English is shot in both classic and cinema-verite style to make it realistic and believable. Hollywood cameraman Robert Eras used 3 different stocks to keep consistency with the "Heaven and Hell on Earth" tagline. The music score by Zakir Hussain, has some of the greatest names in world music. Sultan Khan on Sarangi, Rakesh Chaurasia on Flute, Peter Brooks on Saxaphone. Assisted by Tauique Quereshi, Zakir has used both Indian, Westersn and Persian instruments to add authenticity to the film.

Written by American David Donihue and Rahul Dholakia, the film was shot in sync sound over 45 days. The film is edited by National award winner Aarif Sheikh, and produced by K.B. Sareen, Kamal Patel and Rahul Dholakia. Inspired by a true story, Parzania is directed by Rahul Dholakia. It was recently given and adult certificate by the censor board for its mature content.

The film has been viewed and appreciated by celebrities like Ismail Merchant, Aamir Khan, Aishwarya rai, Saeed Mirza, Anand Patwardhan, Dimple Kapadia, John Pierson, Pankaj Kapur, Nandita Das, Shabnam Hashmi, Sudhir Mishra and Sharmila Tagore to name a few.
