Aamir Khan angry!

Aamir Khan is angry with trade experts, media persons and exhibitors for believing that the response to 'The Rising' is not as much as anticipated. According to rumours, he is a tad disappointed with the reviews of the film as well. Believing the movie is a hit, Aamir says that while a film like 'Bunty Aur Babli' had got distributors 5 crores in its entire run, 'The Rising' managed that much in a week! He added that 'The Rising' had done nearly the same business as the entire run of 'Lagaan'!

What Aamir is forgetting to factor in is the budget, publicity and print expenditure on 'The Rising'. Take the comparison with 'B&B'. The difference in total budget of the two films is more than 100%. 'The Rising' is on a substantially larger scale and was pitched as an international film (rather than a Bollywood film) so the comparison is ridiculous. 'The Rising' has released with a staggering 411 prints in India and 93 prints in the UK alone, which is around double that of 'B&B' or most big Bollywood films for that matter. So the absolute collections are bound to be high but collections must be viewed in conjunction with the number of prints. The publicity spend on 'The Rising' has also been radically higher than that on some recent films like 'B&B', 'Parineeta' and 'Maine Pyaar...'. Let's give 'The Rising' time till Friday before passing a verdict.

Remember our prediction. It won't be a washout but won't set the box office on fire either.
