'Matrubhoomi' is being touted as the first Indian film to release in 6 different languages - Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Bhojpuri and Hindi versions to release simultaneously across India on June 3rd, after a long wait. This Indo-French venture is produced by Punkej Kharbanda, Patrick Sobelman and Nicholas Blanc and presented by Boney Kapoor and Sridevi.
'Matrubhoomi' explores the subject of gender discrimination in our country – primarily dealing with the issue of female infanticide. It's hypothetically set in the rural areas of northern India, where due to the mass female infanticide the society is bereft of women and its eventual consequences. The movie showcases the impact of this resultant in-equilibrium on the physical, emotional and psychological well being of humans. The plot deals with a lonely woman's struggle in a society devoid of other women; it's the story of Kalki – the only woman in the village who is spied and married off to a family comprising of five brothers. The film follows the long and turbulent journey of Kalki as she begins her struggle for survival!
Those who've seen it tell us that the movie is very loud and explicit, and strictly for adult viewing. Presented by Boney Kapoor, it is directed by Manish Jha and stars Tulip Joshi ('Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai', 'Dil Maange More') - the protagonist of the film and is supported by Sushant Singh and Sudhir Pandey.
