It's the final round of the 'Sahara Manoranjan Mr. & Miss Bollywood' contest {managed by Percept D' Mark and audited by Ernst & Young}, which commenced way back in March. The largest talent hunt ever held in India, began at Filmistan Studios in Goregaon.
The final seventy-four contestants, narrowed down from over 40,000 entries, which came in from India, the UK, the US, Pakistan and the UAE, converged in Mumbai on August 2nd, to begin their demanding three-day auditions.
The judging panel, comprised of Karan Johar, Ashutosh Gowariker, Mahesh Bhatt, Smita Thackeray, Pankaj Parashar, Priyadarshan, E. Niwas, Ken Ghosh and others, will select thirty actors to be primped and preened for a career in the film industry. After their training in Mumbai, four of the thirty winners will be given lead roles in films, the remaining twenty-six, in television serials. Two of the winners will have their careers launched by Percept and Sahara. Other filmmakers have already promised the winners roles in their forthcoming projects as well.
How profitable are these talent searches? Well, considering that past searches have discovered actors such as Rajesh Khanna, Dharmendra, Asha Parekh, Sadhana and Shahid Kapoor, along with singers Shreya Ghoshal and Sunidhi Chauhan, it all sounds very promising.
