Yash Chopra gets Phalke Award

Producer-director Yash Chopra has been honored with the Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2001 for his tremendous contribution to Hindi Cinema. This makes Yash Chopra 32nd recipient of the award which was instituted in the year 1969 to commemorate the outstanding contribution of the late Dada Saheb Phalke to the Indian Film Industry. Yash Chopra's older brother B.R. Chopra was also the Dadasaheb Phalke Award recipient for the year 1998. The award carries a shawl, a swarna Kamal and cash prize of Rs.2,00,000. In a career spanning over half-century Yash Chopra has made numerous films, some of which have become landmarks of Indian cinema. Among Yash Chopra's most memorable films are Dhool Ka Phool, Waqt, Ittefaq, Deewar, Kabhi Kabhi, Trishul, Silsila, Chandni, Lamhe and Dil To Paagal Hai.
