'Garam Masala', 'Bhagam Bhaag' and now 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa', so what do these three above mentioned movies have in common? They have a lot of well established names like the director Priyadarshan, lucky music director, Pritam, maverick actor Paresh Rawal, new comedy star Rajpal Yadav and above all the self-made superstar, Akshay Kumar. All these names combined gave Priyan (as he is fondly called) two of the biggest hits of his career, 'Garam Masala' and 'Bhagam Bhaag'. Will the lucky charms work for the third time? Will it be a hattrick for the team? Come Eid, we will know when 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' releases. For now, let us check out the audio album.

Superb fusion of anklets and rubab sounds (simulated on a guitar), commence the highly addictive title track 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa'. Its groovy, infectious rhythm captivates the listeners, and one simply gets hooked on it. It's difficult to prevent oneself from chanting "Hare Ram, Hare Ram, Hare Krishna, Hare Ram", much like it was with Dev Anand's groovy title track from 'Hare Rama, Hare Krishna'. Coming back to the track, Sameer's lyrics are the USP, the mix and match of English reggae and Hindustani is outstanding. One simply gels into the other. A trend started by the talented singer Neeraj Sridhar himself, who is the lead singer of the pop group 'Bombay Vikings', which has delivered some big chartbusters like 'Woh Chali Woh Chali'. This is one of those tracks, which has chartbuster written all over it, right from the first promo. With the latest song promo showing Akki grooving and gyrating in those cute steps, it will only enhance the popularity further.

'Bhool Bhulaiyaa-remix', by DJ Amyth will be liked by a section of the people who like racy rhythmic versions to dance in discos and night-clubs. The groovy, infectious rhythm is totally spoilt though, as the fast pace absolutely corrupts the original.
Soft musical arrangements dominated by synthesized jaltarang and K.K.'s musical crooning, a la Atif Aslam (one that Atif would be proud of) commences 'Labon Ko'. A smooth and creamy, passionate love song picturised on Shiney Ahuja and Vidya Balan. Background musical arrangements are dominated by guitar and flute and therefore it doesn't get too soft and mushy. In fact, K.K.'s base vocals make it a crackling composition.

'Labon Ko-Remix' is by DJ Kiran, DJ G and Earl. It's more than a formal rehash of the original, dominated more by musical arrangements. Thankfully, the vocals (K.K.) have not been polluted much. A creditable effort.

All Indian arrangements like shehnai and dholak commence 'Lets Rock Soniye'. A marriage cum celebration number, alas, Pritam rehashes his own 'Yaara Dhol Bajake' number from 'Dhol', which itself was rehashed from 'Koi Shehri Babu' ('Loafer'). Even the antara is a potpourri of many heard before tunes. Is Pritam running out of ideas? Shaan is good as usual and so is Tulsi.

'Lets Rock Soniye-Remix' is an average, half hearted attempt, nothing novel has been offered here. In fact, there is not much difference between the two versions.
Classical veena sounds commence the desirous, loving and missing the beloved composition 'Sakhiyan'. This is a solo number by Tulsi Kumar, which will appeal to a section of the public. In between, the 'Dhoom' signature tune crops up, though the composition is strictly traditional. The song is of a style, which was prevalent in the 60's and 70's and is no longer in vogue.

Ghungroo sounds with classical todas commence the much talked about flashback song from the movie, 'Mere Dholna'. It is for the connoisseurs of Hindustani classical music, complete with sitar, rudra veena, tabla, etc. Twice National Award winner Shreya Ghoshal shows why she may one day be a worthy successor to the living legend Lata Mangeshkar. The jugalbandi of the classical todas and alaaps by Shreya and M.G. Sreekumar is breathtaking. Pritam shows his hold over classical music through this bewitching number. And we thought he was just about rock and synthesizers!

Next up is 'Sajda', a love song, with the 'Garam Masala' hangover looming largely throughout the number, though K.K. tries his level best to infuse life into the number with his inspired singing. Otherwise it's an ordinary number that may look good on screen if choreographed well.

'Sajda-Remix' is a good attempt by DJ Suketu and is better than the original. The added pace and the musical arrangements play a vital part in doing just that.
Lovely, racy rhythms commence 'Allah Hafiz', a philosophical song, dealing with the situations and the moments in life. It's a song that is in the same alley as 'Ek Raasta Hai Zindagi' ('Kala Pather') and the more recent 'Yun Hi Chala Chal Rahi'(Swades). It would not be an overstatement if we said that it's a worthy successor to the above mentioned songs. K.K. is absolutely fabulous and so are the lyrics by Sameer, sometimes matter-of-fact, at times, thought provoking and of course inspirational too. "Zindagi ka safar, Ajnabi ajnabi, Sason ki rahguzar ajnabi, Na tujhe hai khabar, na mujhe hai khabar, Chal rahein hum magar ajnabi, Allah Hafiz, Allah Hafiz, Kah raha har pal."

To sum it up, the song says that life moves on, without our being aware of what life has in store for us. So all the best to you wanderers and travelers. Go ahead and achieve your goals. Allah Hafiz (you are in God's protection).

Though listed as 'Allah Hafiz', the song 'Labon ko tum' is also embedded along with the number. In fact, both the songs play on together with one or the other number being relegated to the background. An unique attempt.

On the whole, 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' is one of the better audio albums from the cent-per-cent successful actor-director combo. It will be loved by the music buffs and the Gen X, as it has all kinds of compositions that will appeal to almost all sections. Inspirations aside (which is our duty to point out), Pritam is all set to complete a hat-trick of successes (as a composer) for the Priyan-Akki team, with this album, as the songs are sure to climb up the charts. The title track has already started its popularity journey. Definitely worth your $/Rs.!
