'Paisa' - Power - Politics, that's the tagline for Madhur Bhandarkar's latest offering, 'Corporate'. So should we music buffs expect some good musical offerings from the team that gave us the surprise metro success 'Page 3'?

Incidentally, Bhandarkar has retained the same 'Page 3' team of Shamir Tandon and Sandeep Nath for 'Corporate'. So lets go for the audio remote!

The first composition, 'Lamha Lamha Zindagi Hai' is a philosophical, thought provoking song, sung in a style reminiscent of the Gulzar/R.D. Burman days. The use of minimum background musical instruments highlights Asha Bhonsle's super smooth, silken and ageless vocals. Lyrics by Sandeep Nath are appropriate - "Lamha lamha zindagi hai, Lamha lamha kal tha, Aaj bhi hai". If we compare this song to 'Huzoor-E-Aala' from 'Page 3', 'Lamha Lamha' is somewhat better.

The second version is 'Lamha Lamha' (Sad Version) and like its title, it is a super slow, very short, situational number.

The next number 'O Sikander' features thrice, once as original, secondly as 'Desi Mix' and for the third time as 'International Dance Mix'.

Surprisingly, it is Kailash Kher along with item number queen Payal Rohatgi (who sizzles up the screen) in the promos being aired. 'O Sikander' is a proper, pure, unadulterated 'qawwali', complete with 'tabla' and harmonium. Kailash is simply amazing. The ease with which he renders this composition (along with the rarely heard Saapna Mukerji) is a revelation.

The 'O Sikander (Desi Mix)' has Sonu Kakkar (of 'Babuji Zara Dheere Chalo' fame) joining Kher, but there is nothing 'desi' about this 'Desi Mix'. In fact, joint singing by the artists along with unnecessary musical arrangements spoils the song to an extent.

The 'O Sikander (International Dance Mix)' has been remixed by Diamond 'DJ Swami' Duggal and true to its name, it has the essential English rap along with extra zing, in terms of Western musical arrangements. Once again, it only manages to spoil the beauty of the original composition.

Next up is 'Yahan Sabko Sab (Easy Mix)', which is basically a very rhythmic, situational number; highlighting the double standards of the rich, 'Corporate' society, where no one is loyal to the other. This is an obvious attempt by Madhur to get support from that section of the society, which is not privy to the high society luxurious lifestyle. This is something he did successfully in 'Page 3', by painting rich and famous in bad light. Obviously, it is the fascination of the underpriveledged to hear negative comments about a society that they can only dream of!

Coming back to the song, despite some good singing by Alisha Chinai and Gary Lawyer's husky vocals, the song ends up sounding comical rather than satirical and surprisingly Sandeep Nath's lyrics are the main culprit.

'Yahan Sabko Sab (Corporate Title)' is more pacy and rhythmic than the original, with a few changes here and there.

The last track, 'Peele Peele Do Do Ghoont' has Vasundhra Das with Sangeet Haldipur asking people "To get high tonight. Move your body right." A very below average, rather garbage hip-hop composition, which ends the album on a dissapointing note.

On the whole, 'Corporate', barring 'O Sikander' will rank as one of the worse albums of 2006. Keep away from it for your own good as there is no 'Kitne Ajeeb' (Lata), 'Mere Wajood' (Adnan Sami) or even the massy and raunchy 'Kuan Mein Doob Jaaon' (Sapna Awasthi) to be found here!
