Joggers' Park

Human relationships are funny, aren't they? You never know when or where you'll meet the one who's right for you. Case in point - Two joggers, one a young model and executive of a five-star hotel, the other a more mellow, older generation judge. On the surface, would you say that this is an intended match? Mr. Subhash Ghai thinks it has potential, even universal appeal. Yet Joggers' Park carries with it a story line which we haven't seen in Hindi films to date, nor internationally.

First, we have Jenny (Perizaad Zorabian). She unfortunately has experienced love's sorrows, but instead of sulking about it, she has internalized the feelings in order to make her stronger, outgoing, and independent. She sets her standards and makes her own set of rules to live by.

Then there is Judge Chatterjee (Victor Banerjee), a more subdued fellow whose past 40 years have held him in courtrooms, trying to met out justice. Now his life takes a major U-Turn when he meets Jenny. Drawn by her straightforward and fearless charisma, a transformation brings feelings he didn't know existed deep inside to the surface.

So how are these two going to overcome the differences not only in character but age-wise? The film does promises to not only "strike a chord with the audience," but "intrigue them" while doing so.

There are a few other interesting elements which make this film fresh. The musical score, for instance, has not one, not two, or even three, but FOUR great singers singing on these contemporary tracks, namely, Adnan Sami, Jagjit Singh, Asha Bhonsle, and Usha Uthup. The ten tracks comprise a Hinglish album where two of them are completely in English, and three are instrumental - leaving the remaining five to be sung in Hindi. Something which might also take you by surprise is that Mr. Ghai himself has taken to composing the lyrics of two of the songs, besides coming up with the concept and story of Joggers' Park.

If all of these ingredients come together, as it seems they have, Joggers' Park will be the talk of the town for some time to come. Who knows, it might even become a model for which other film directors will take note. Be on the lookout for the July 18, 2003 release.
