Mithilesh Shukla (Rajpal Yadav) is a librarian at the University of Lucknow. He is also a 34-year-old bachelor, who until this point in his life has successfully avoided marriage, despite all the pressures his family puts on him otherwise. He finally cracks when his uncle (who is a lawyer) and his over emotional mother find him the ''ideal proposal'' and force him to go to Bareli to meet Veena (Rituparna Sengupta).

Veena leaves Mithilesh speechless. She is naturally charming, intelligent, naughty yet innocent, and last but not in the least, very beautiful. All these factors combined with his ordinary looks, leave Mithilesh with a strong fear of rejection. As the turmoil builds within him, he is bowled over to learn that not only has Veena accepted his family's proposal but she actually wants to marry him. Helplessly succumbing to this act of God, Cupid, fate or whatever has made this possible, Mithilesh decides to go ahead with the marriage.

Yet, each day, Mithilesh is reminded of his ordinary looks and Veena's stunning beauty. Time and again, as people with nothing better to do, call him ''Lucky'', for getting Veena as a wife, while others appear eager to get to know only her.

Mithilesh, needing to regain his balance and peace of mind, contrives a plan of action. With the combined help of the cheeky vegetable vendor, the talkative milkman, the over friendly Salim and blessings from Lord Shiva, his life seems to begin to take on meaning again. However, as fate would have it, just as he starts to breathe a sigh of relief, Akash (Kay Kay Menon) one of Veena's old childhood friends, whom she hasn't seen in years, moves in the flat opposite theirs. Much different from Mithilesh, Akash is a tall dark and handsome computer hardware engineer from Delhi.

Even with the best-laid plan and blessings, Mithilesh is unable to avoid the inevitable - Veena's and Akash's interaction with each other. Their similar preferences, Akash's boyish charm and the fact that they have so much catching up to do, leaves Mithilesh feeling like a third-wheel.

Heartbreaking as it is, Mithilesh watches Veena and Akash together and the thoughts of how well suited they are for each other and that Veena deserves better, well up within him. Yet, even more heartbreaking is the moment when, as the restless Mithilesh contemplates his next move, his world comes crashing down around him, as he learns that Veena feels the same way about the situation.

The remainder of the love story shows one man's journey to set things right and make everyone happy in the end. But will he be able to live happily ever after when all is said and done? Check it out at your local theater to see what happens.
