Kal Ho Naa Ho

What would you do if you found yourself nearing the end of your life, due to a devastating disease, especially if you hadn't even reached your prime? Would you be thrown on a roller coaster ride of emotions? Would it change how you looked at life and its priorities? Would you turn to the ones you love for support, or simply back away and live out your final days alone?

Shah Rukh Khan's character in Kal Ho Naa Ho has to make those difficult decisions. What will he do when his beautiful romance with Priety Zinta's character is on the verge of being cut short because tragedy strikes, and the story of a lifetime happens in a heartbeat? What will happen to Priety's character now that the love of her life is losing his? Who will she turn to if he turns her away? Will Shah Rukh's doctor played by Saif Ali Khan become her solace in her time of need?

Audiences who scramble to the cinema to see SRK's new film, had better bring several boxes of tissues along, as Karan Johar promises, "you'll weep buckets throughout the entire story." Those aware of Johar's films can take him seriously, since he's done it twice before in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Kabhi Khushie Khabie Ghum. Just think about the lines of Kal Ho Naa Ho themselves and you'll get a taste of what he means.

Aaj, aaj ek hansee aur baant lo...
(Today, today, share another laugh)
Aaj, ek dua aur maang lo...
(Today, ask for another supplication)
Aaj, ek aansu aur pi lo...
(Today, drink {as in save} another tear)
Aaj, ek zindagi aur ji lo...
(Today, live another life)
Aaj, ek sapna aur dekh lo...
(Today, dream another dream)
Kya pata, Kal Ho Naa Ho...
(Who knows what tomorrow holds)

Is that's not enough to start tugging at your heartstrings? Then maybe the song titles will help it along further. They include, Mahi ve (Oh lover), Kuch to hua hai (Something has happened), and Bidai (the Separation).

Even without all these other components, anyone who has seen Shah Rukh Khan in action, knows what happens when his big beautiful brown eyes start to shed tears. The emotions he emits without even uttering a sound are incredible. A lump starts to build up in your throat, and your eyes start to burn as you try to fight it. Yet, you know that it's inevitable, it's going to happen whether you want it to or not. Those tiny salt droplets are going to start to flow, slowly first, and then they turn into a stream of water running down your cheeks. Then as you try to see through the wall of water, you start to look around the cinema to see if anyone is watching you. And what do you find? Everyone is struck by the same heart wrenching emotions and find themselves expressing them in the same way. So you know you're not alone.

If Kal Ho Naa Ho asks "who knows what tomorrow holds", what can we ask for, but that if it's to be our last day of life, that tomorrow never come.

Mark it on your calendar and don't miss it's November 28th release!
