Darling

He is back! The director of 'Aag' is here ... run for your life! Not exactly.

'Darling' is the story of an executive Aditya Soman (Fardeen Khan) who has a doting wife Anjali (Isha Koppikar) and a son. He also has a girlfriend, Geeta Menon (Esha Deol), who is also his secretary. The girlfriend dies one day and makes life miserable for Aditya. This surmises the story in a nutshell.

Welcome to a new unique genre in Indian cinema ... Horror Comedy! After major disappointing films like 'Naach', 'Nishabd', 'Shiva' and 'Aag', Ram Gopal Varma is back in his element, with 'Darling'.

Fardeen Khan, as the hassled and terrified lover, gives his best performance to date. Esha Deol, as the haunting ghost, is superb. Performance wise, Isha Koppikar doesn't have scope to do much but she excels in her role. The characters of Inspector Reddy and his stern faced colleague Malati Pandey are very well etched and well performed. In fact, they are the scene-stealers!
Sound design by veteran Deepan Chatterjee is superlative. So is the background score. Cinematography by Amit Roy is good. Though the editing by RGV's regulars is disappointing in most places, the rest of the competent crew more than makes up for the shortcomings.

With this film RGV proves that there is still lot of steam left in him and he is not to be written off so soon. The resolution in the climax is pretty wacky!

This is an engaging fare and a must watch.
