Everything about the film seems over done! Agreed the film captures Sushmita Sen's exuberance for life but a hyperactive Sushmita Sen, Kim Sharma, and Moushmi Chatterjee put together seem too loud to be true. The concept of a mother sacrificing her life for her child is not uncommon but the manner in which it's done in this film seems forced and fake.
Now for the story. 'Zindaggi Rocks' revolves around Dr. Suraj Trehan (Shiney Ahuja), the reserved workaholic doctor, and rock star, Kria (Sushmita Sen). They are unlike poles that get attracted to each other.
The two meet in the hospital when the latter comes to treat a deep cut on her arm. The two hit it off instantly.
Kria senses that something is wrong in Suraj's life and decides to invite him out on a date. Suraj agrees reluctantly!
|
They are joined by her mad family comprising of her business manager cum friend, Joy (Kim Sharma), a crazy fun-loving aunt (Moushumi Chatterjee in a dual role), and adopted son Dhruv (Julian). It would have been a fairy tale but Dhruv has a hole in his heart and needs a heart transplant while Shiney is married!
(Spoiler ALERT! If you intend to watch this movie and do not want to know the surprises being revealed here, stop reading now!)
Although the film starts off well with Kria and Suraj getting attracted to each other, the sequence of events that follow fail to sustain the viewers' interest. Even the sequences involving Kria and Dhruv lack conviction. When we realize that Dhruv has a hole in his heart and that he desperately needs a heart transplant to survive, we know that Kria is planning to kill herself in order to donate her heart to him.
Considering the fact that she's a popular rock star, she could have easily got a donor for her son. She also seems like a woman with all the means to take her son to the other end of the world for treatment. So this solution to the problem seems like desperately trying to prove a mother's love for her adopted son.

There's no drama involved at all or even a twist in the tale. There's so much that one could have done with this film. The script writer could have used Suraj's wife, who's been lying in coma since the past six months, as a potential donor and Kria pressurizing him to kill her. Suraj could have been shown as a man torn between his vegetable like wife and his love! What a waste of a story! Also, why is Suraj being held guilty for Kria taking her own life? All this makes it a supposedly highly emotional film that fails to bring tears to your eyes. Blame it on the bad screenplay. Anu Malik's music is okay.
Performances- Sushmita is good in places but goes overboard in a few scenes. Shiney is decent and balances off the loudness of the three women. Moushumi Chatterjee is okay as the mother, but irritates as the hip hop twin. She needs to do something about her English diction. Julian is good. Seema Biswas is okay in a brief role.
Bleak box office prospects for this film!
