The only thing going for it is its unconventional story. The USP of the film is Mithun Chakraborty in a special role that suits him to a T.
Saahil Mehra (Emraan Hashmi) runs a travel agency with a friend in U.K. The two con their clients to make some extra money because Saahil needs money for his mother's treatment, who is seriously ill in a hospital.
Neha (Geeta Basra) comes to London on a holiday with her close friend and family. Saahil is their travel agent cum guide in the U.K. When Neha and her family are about to leave for Scotland, Neha in true filmi style misses the train. She is all alone with Saahil in London and requests him to take her to Scotland. She seems quite bold and confident. Why can't she take the train to Scotland the next day? We are still wondering.

Saahil agrees. Along the way they meet Ronny and Michelle (Mithun Chakraborty & Kitu Gidwani). Neha realizes that she's in love with Saahil. On reaching Scotland, Saahil gets to know that his mother's condition has deteriorated. He tries gambling to make a quick buck. No luck!
The only way out is to sell Neha to a flesh trader, Kunal (Ashmit Patel)! He does exactly that but regrets his action when he realizes that he's in love with her.
Kunal owns 'Erotica', the biggest brothel and sex centre in the U.K. He's cold-hearted and ruthless but falls in love with Neha and wants to marry her. How is this possible in just a day especially when Neha is no earthshaking beauty. She's just an average looker.
Saahil comes back to the brothel to take Neha back but obviously Kunal refuses to let her go. He's fully justified in doing so. After all, he's paid 40,000 pounds for her. Emraan rescuing Neha from the brothel and taking on Kunal's henchmen single-handedly is unbelievable. He's no Sunny Deol!

Now for the performances. Emraan Hashmi is decent but there's no smooch scene with his heroine. Ashmit is good as the villain. Newcomer Geeta Basra is lackluster. She tends to overact initially but settles down as the film progresses. Either her makeup is bad or there's something seriously not right about her face! Mithun is likable. Udita Goswami sizzles in an item number in the opening track of the film!
There are a couple of scenes that make great impact, especially the fight sequences in Mithun's house, and in the climax of the film. The film is well shot but tends to get slow in some parts. Himesh Reshammiya's music is a disappointment! Somehow his romantic and soulful numbers don't register. He's perfect for fast paced item songs.
On the whole, 'Dil Diya Hai' is a very bland love story.
