'Phir Hera Pheri' is an attempt to cash in on the success of 'Hera Pheri' and it does so in a big way. The response to the film is superb. So is the initial. Finally one sequel has worked in Bollywood.

But on the downside, we have to add right in the beginning that the film lacks Priyadarshan's master touch in quite a few places. There's confusion in some scenes with the performances not quite up to the mark. The comedy in these parts also tends to go overboard.

Neeraj Vora proves it once again that he's good at dialogues and script but does not make for a good director.

Don't know if Priyadarshan will feel flattered or irritated when he hears of his signature chase scene in the climax of all his films being used in this film too. This bit is sure to appeal big time to the masses. That the film will be a huge hit is a foregone conclusion. But there's lot of slapstick comedy involved so some may think of the film as being silly.

Now for the story. 'Phir Hera Pheri' as we all know is the sequel to 'Hera Pheri' with the famous threesome; Raju (Akshay Kumar), Shyam (Suneil Shetty) and Baburao (Paresh Rawal). 'Hera Pheri' ended with the trio becoming rich in the end.

As usual the street smart Raju comes across a scheme of doubling money in a matter of two weeks. All he needs to invest is a minimum of Rs. 1 crore with a chit-fund company headed by Anuradha (Bipasha Basu). Shyam and Baburao are reluctant initially but soon get lured by it. They contribute Rs. 10 lacs each.

Raju manages to dupe a street side goon played by Rajpal Yadav into contributing 20 lacs and the rest he manages by selling their bungalow to a Parsi gentleman (Dinesh Hingoo).

Two weeks later the trio realizes that the chit-fund company was actually a big scam. The goon also finds himself in troubled waters since he had borrowed money from a dreaded gangster, Tiwari (Sharat Saxena), who will kill him if he does not pay up.

The trio goes back from riches to rags.

It's loads of fun in the first half. The second half tends to get slightly boring but again picks up when the trio decide to indulge in 'hera pheri' again to get out of the mess they're in.

Some scenes really stand out. Raju trying to impress Rajpal Yadav at a tea stall and then at his mansion is hilarious. Akshay, Suniel and Paresh's constant bickering and fights after they've gone bankrupt will keep the audience thoroughly entertained.

Of the songs, 'Mujhko Yaad Sataye Teri' sounds good. Once again 'Phir Hera Pheri' belongs to Paresh Rawal. Akshay Kumar shows superb comic timing again but seems repetitive. Suniel Shetty is good except in a few scenes. Bipasha and Rimmi have hardly much to do. Rajpal Yadav excels once again. Johny Lever is funny as usual.
