Tom Dick and Harry

We must say that we were surprised to discover that the film is not as bad as one expected it to be. It's a film that will appeal to the front-benchers because of its crude humour. It may also appeal to the sex-starved Indian audience. The maker hasn't even bothered to use double meaning dialogues in many places, some of the dialogues are downright cheap. The film obviously lacks logic and is no family entertainer.

There isn't much to tell in the form of a story but this is what the film is about. It shows the escapades of three physically impaired ('defected pieces' as Gulshan Grover refers to them) - Tom (a deaf Dino Morea), Dick (a blind Anuj Sawhney), and Harry (a dumb Jimmy Shergill). They live together as paying guests in Happy Singh's (Rakesh Bedi) house.

Their dull lives are suddenly brightened when Celina (Celina Jaitley) comes to live in the bungalow opposite their house. The three do their best to impress her, without making it too obvious. There's a fisherwoman (Kim Sharma), who is completely in love with Tom.

There's a parallel track too. Soprano (Gulshan Grover), the villain, is in the business of kidnapping pretty girls and exporting them to various countries. Tom, Dick and Harry unknowingly become his target. How they overpower him forms the second half of the film.

Nothing exciting about it, you may say. But to give credit to the film, the film does have a few genuinely funny scenes especially between Tom, Dick, and Harry. It's hilarious to watch Tom and Harry trying to make conversation with someone. Since Tom is deaf and Harry is dumb, Harry listens to the person and through sign language conveys it to Tom who then answers the person accordingly. Even the blind Dick trying to see things is funny. He walks into Happy's kid's birthday party with blown up condoms mistaking them to be balloons. This is funny. The only scene in which Kim and Celina interact is funny. Even Kim trying hard to seduce Tom is funny. But even these few scenes cannot save the film.

Himesh Reshamiya's item songs score but seem forced!

Now for the performances. The guys are adequate but Kim is the surprise package. Not only does she look convincing as the fisherwoman but also has her accent right. Even Celina looks perfect for the role. Gulshan Grover is efficient.

But on the whole, the prospects of the film see too bleak.

** (Two stars)
