Leave your brains behind at home when you go for this film. If you even try to look for logic anywhere you'll be doomed and that will be the end of your fun trip. Yeah, that's what this film is about. Although it doesn't have much to offer content wise, it has a lot of style, and humour. And Aishwarya Rai in her special one-song appearance in the film is worth the price of your ticket. She looks divine with her long tresses and toned body. Besides the film has been shot very well. Also the lively banter between Senior and Junior Bachchan is fun.
This doesn't mean that the film doesn't have its flaws. It drags a bit in places and is slightly long. The editing could have been crisp to make it fast paced.
Now for the story. Rakesh (Abhishek Bachchan) is the son of a Ticket Collector. He obviously has no intentions of following in his father's footsteps and dreams of becoming rich and famous. He has a constant tussle with his parents over this. Vimmi (Rani Mukherji) dreams of becoming a Supermodel some day while her parents are almost on the verge of getting her married off.
|
Both Rakesh and Vimmi are small town people and the only way out of their predicament is running away from home. This they do. Destiny brings them together and after being conned once they decide to turn con man and con woman. They call themselves Bunty (Abhishek) and Babli (Rani). They visit almost every part of the country and fleece people.
They become the talk of every town they visit but nobody knows what they look like. The famous couple is written about in almost every newspaper. There are no clever moves like in Yash Chopra's previous film, 'Dhoom' but they start with little capers and graduate to big money. At one point they almost decide that they've had enough of 'a life of crime' but cannot give up their exciting life.
So caper after caper and Bunty-Babli are freaking out. Till Police Inspector Dashrath (Amitabh Bachchan) gets on their trail. Now the proceedings liven up a bit. Thank God! A bit of monotony had started creeping in. Aren't you wondering when Bunty-Babli are getting caught! They couldn't possibly be so lucky in life.
|
Well, they don't get caught! Remember the warning about leaving your brains behind at home! They even pull off the biggest bank robbery despite the fact Vimmi is due to deliver her baby any moment. She delivers in the midst of their chase and the two manage to evade Inspector Dashrath. But the makers decide to bring some semblance of normalcy to the film and you will have to watch the movie to see what that is. Even though it is sort of predictable, the climax is fun. Watch it.
Now for performances. Amitabh is cool. So is Abhishek. He is completely relaxed in all the scenes and also dances well. This is an achievement for someone who was called gawky at one time. His dress sense too has improved. He has really grown as an actor and is the hero of the masses today with his boy next door looks. He is exceptionally good in a get up where he is conning a foreigner into buying the Taj Mahal. It's also fun to watch father and son matching steps wit each other in the Ash song.
Rani is a complete natural and delights especially when she starts howling loudly on a couple of occasions. She even looks hot in some scenes. The songs are peppy. All in all a time pass film that is sure to do well in this vacation period. A one-time watch film!
