After reigning the world with her beauty and charm, she conquered the hearts of millions of moviegoers with her acting and grace. Aishwarya Rai has been there and done it. Whatever she has touched has turned into gold, maybe the exception of her love life.
Starting her career as a model, she soon became a well know face. She had the looks, and the appeal to look Indian as well as funky in a western getup. After appearing in numerous advertisements (the most famous being the one with Aamir Khan for Pepsi) on television and in print, she decided to contest the Miss India in which she came first runner up, and later on went to fetch the Miss World crown. With fame and adulation came the calls from Bollywood, which she couldn't
resist. Soon she signed up for her debut film 'Aur... Pyaar Ho Gaya' directed by Rahul Rawail. The movie however bombed miserably and the critics too ripped the film apart. Soon to follow this dud were more duds - 'Jeans' and the R.K. extravaganza 'Aa Ab Laut Chalen'.
However things took a U turn with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam'. The movie was one of the biggest hits of the year and Aishwarya won not only the critics but also the popular awards that year. She was labeled as the next big thing to hit Bollywood. Her ability to convey emotions with her eyes and her voice, and dance like a professional was seen as something that everyone doesn't have. This was one of the biggest highpoints of her career.
Following the mega success of 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam', Aishwarya got offers from all quarters. She gave hits like 'Josh', 'Taal', 'Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai' and 'Mohabbatein'. She became the darling of the masses as well as the flavor of the critics.
