After supermodel Rahul Dev proved his worth as a villain and supporting actor of substance, it's the unconventional looking Irrfan Khan who has joined Rahul's league. Irfan (he now spells it as Irrfan) joined the National School of Drama in New Delhi, because he did not want to study. Acting was never planned but soon became a passion.
In his final year of college, he was cast in Mira Nair's 'Salaam Bombay'. Even though his role was edited, he did not stand deterred. He started doing theatre in Delhi. One such play was based on Lenin, which later became a tele-play. Filmmaker Govind Nihalani saw it and offered him a role in his play 'Little Eyolf'.
Khan came to the city of dreams, Mumbai, in 1990, and there was no looking back after that. His first film, 'Drishti', was with heavyweights Dimple Kapadia and Shekhar Kapoor. Then there was Tapan Sinha's 'Ek Doctor Ki Maut' and Shyam Benegal's 'Ward Number Six'. Khan was not averse to television and featured in serials like 'Darr', 'Chanakya', 'Sparsh', 'Babuji' and 'Banegi Apni Baat'. He even produced serials.
