She is in news these days not just for her power packed performance in Boney Kapoor's 'Shakti" the power' , but also due to the announcement of her soon to be held engagement with Abhishek Bacchan. Karisma Kapoor has definitely come a full circle. From her amatuer days in Prem Qaidi, to the controversy surrounding the songs she did ('sexy sexy' and 'khatiya' numbers), Karisma has basked in the adultation of Raja Hindustani, Dil to Pagal Hai (which won her a national award), Zubeida and now Shakti.
Karisma began her film career at the tender age of 16 in Prem Qaidi which was a commercial success. However she was heavily criticized for her looks, acting and shunned by critics as a shame to the family that she comes from. Soon after that Karisma acted in a number of multistarrers like, 'Aatish', 'Sangram', 'Andaz apna apna', 'Gopi Kishan' , etc.
Her first major hit was 'Raja Babu' with Govinda which stared a series of David Dhawan-Govinda-Karisma movies, all of which were hits on the box-office. The movie was a favourite with the front benchers and the masses who basically loved the onscreen chemistry between Govinda and Karisma. Karisma was criticised for the song 'sarkailyo khatiya' which was labelled as crude and vulgar.
Post Raja Babu, Karisma had a string of average to bumper hits at the box office. These included 'Suhaag', 'Coolie no.1', 'Jeet'.
