Despite his powerful political background, Ritesh Deshmukh is a simple and humble Maharashtran boy who has always been enchanted by the razzle dazzle of Bollywood. His debut venture 'Tujhe Meri Kasam' produced by the southside Ramoji Rao was a surprise in the sense that it did average plus business in several territories. Yet Ritesh didn't see a stream of work coming his way, till producer Vashu Bhagnani decided to sign him for 'Out of Control' opposite Hrishitaa Bhatt and 'Playboy' bunny Brande Roderick.
Sadly, 'Out of Control' failed to ignite the box-office despite its enormous hype and publicity. Vashu Bhagnani had already signed Ritesh for his next film 'Bisaaat' with Zayed Khan and Esha Deol, to be directed by Satish Kaushik. But after the debacle of 'Out of Control', 'Bisaat' appears to be on the backburner and will take a while before it takes off. Vashu's other proposed venture with Akshaye Khanna, Amisha Patel and Ritesh Deshmukh also appears to have been shelved.
Meanwhile, Ritesh got signed up for an extended cameo as Bobby Deol's younger brother by producer Vijay 'Ajnabee' Galani for E.Niwas' 'Bardasht'. Tara Sharma plays his romantic interest. The film is slated for a release in April and Ritesh is said to have delivered an impressive act in a brief role (he dies in the interval and Bobby avenges his brother's death!)
Ritesh is our 'Star of the Week' as the promos of Indra Kumar's 'Masti' (also starring Vivek Oberoi, Ajay Devgan and Aftab Shivdasani) have just come on air, and Ritesh has stolen the show in them. His 'Tujhe Meri Kasam' co-star Genelia D'Souza is paired opposite him again in 'Masti'. According to insiders who've seen portions of the film, Ritesh is the best thing about this comic caper.
At 26, he is single and footloose in his personal life, and says, "I'm enjoying my independent status!" Hopefully, we'll hear of Ritesh in more film announcements soon! |
