After 'Chamatkaar' (with Shah Rukh Khan), 'Narsimha' (with Ravi Behl), 'Aa Gale Lag Jaa' (with Jugal Hansraj) and innumerable other duds (including one opposite Rishi Kapoor!!), Urmila Matondkar was virtually written off from the industry.
When Ram Gopal Varma decided to descend on her like a messiah with 'Rangeela', her career path took a U-turn. Urmila became the industry's overnight sex goddess with her dare-bare scenes and went on to do practically all of Varma's films - 'Daud', 'Satya', 'Mast', 'Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya', 'Jungle', 'Bhoot' and the recent 'Ek Hasina Thi'. Born to a simple middle-class Maharashtran family, Urmila was suddenly catapulted to the astral plane as she was signed up by a slew of big producers opposite big stars like Anil Kapoor ('Judaai'), Govinda ('Hum Tumpe Marte Hain'), Ajay Devgan ('Deewane'), Salman Khan ('Jaanam Samjha Karo'), Sanjay Dutt ('Khoobsurat'), Akshaye Khanna ('Kudrat'), Akshay Kumar ('Aflatoon') and many more.
