Raj Baddhan |
He's fun, he's witty and he's got a bubbly personality to top it all. Raj Baddhan is so in tune with his DJ avatar that it's amazing to see how much he can fit into his three-hour drive time show (5-8 PM) on Sabras Radio in the UK. Yet, amidst all the hyperactivity that he exudes, we were able to still pin him down for a fast paced (in keeping with his distinctive on-air style) tête-à-tête.
You've been at Sabras for a little over a year now. What do you love the most about being a DJ?
Beside the obvious, which is the music, the thrill of being yourself and interacting with all walks of life on a three-hour daily show is amazing. I get a great sense of achievement if I have put a smile of my listeners' faces. It's always nice to hear the programme being liked by such a huge audience and makes my work more worthwhile.
Do you ever find it overwhelming sometimes with trying to fit everything in during such a short time frame and still take notice of your ever-growing fan club that write comments in daily, which you read on the air?
Three hours everyday may sound like such a long time but seriously with the amount of content and music I have, it's sometimes difficult to cram in everything. My listeners' comments and emails play a huge part in my show and hence I do try and read as many as possible on air. The nature of my show is to keep it upbeat and because its a drivetime show its important to keep listeners up to date with the latest news going on.
How do you feel about the live web cam, as most radio personalities are only heard and not seen for the most part?
Today all mediums (TV, radio and multimedia) are being integrated. We at Sabras Radio are evolving and making sure we give our listeners much more than what they hear on the radio. Our new Website has been a huge success and so more features are being introduced in weeks to come.
Is your off-air life just as crazy? What do you do for fun?
Well, I like to describe myself as a crrraazzyy wacky person and really what you hear on the radio is exactly what I'm like off air too...if I got even more wackier I'd probably explode!!
