Excerpts from an interview by VICKEY LALWANI:
Why did you take to direction?
First, let me clarify that I haven't taken to direct because I am shifting my focus from acting. I will continue to act, to the best of my ability. But yes, I have reached a stage in my life where I need to look beyond acting only. I need to grow, evolve and diversify. Plus, I wanted to become a director for quite some time, nearly eight years. The dream laid its first seed when I was shooting for Satish Shah's film 'Dhondte Reh Jaaoge' in Goa.
How did Shabbir Boxwalla come into the picture?
To be frank, I had another subject, which I wanted him to back. But he couldn't do it. The canvas required was very high. With this one, he agreed readily. So why should I look beyond? I've known Shabbir since I worked with Rajiv Rai in Tridev. He was assisting Rai, then. I worked with him in Rao's 'Vishwatma' and 'Mohra' too. We have a good equation. I wanted a producer who gives a complete free hand to me. |
