Kamal Hassan in 'Mumbai Xpress' |
Kamal Hassan's 'Mumbai Express' has hit the theatres. In conversation with Vickey Lalwani, the celebrated actor shares his experiences in the making of this film, which gave him enough problems:
There is a controversy in Tamil Nadu about the title of your film?
They think 'Mumbai Express' is an Anglo-centric title. By calling my film 'Mumbai Express', I am inculcating Western values. Isn't that ridiculous? Why doesn't anybody take object to the dozens of trains in the country, which have 'express' word in their names? Why pick on me? I fail to understand. Am I the punching bag of this nation? (shrugs).
Even the item number on Rakhi Sawant and Moon Moon has been deleted?
Since there are allegations against Censor officials that they are allowing excessive vulgarity in films, they have taken strong objection to a sexy item number in 'Mumbai Express', featuring Rakhi Sawant and Moon Moon. According to Haasan, the story symbolizes two inbuilt traits of human beings - greed and sex. This song depicts these traits and is important to the story. I had explained this factor in detail to the officials. But Censor officials were in no mood to listen or oblige. They steadfastly maintained that they would give an 'A' certificate along with a few cuts in the song, if it was to be in the film. I agreed to remove the song because I was keen on releasing Mumbai Express with a 'U' certificate. |
