A Still from 'Kabhi Socha Bhi Na Tha' |
Kabhi Socha Bhi Na Tha (KSBNT) produced by KIRRON SZEZN (ARTISKINKY MOTION PICTURES) and directed by Kallol Szezn combines fiction with reality to examine new age sexuality in post modern urban India. KSBNT is a feature-film that explores the subtle intimacy between what we want in life and what we get in life. It interweaves a fictional narrative and real-life interviews to create an eclectic and provocative mosaic of genres that looks at desire, power, manipulation, sexual identity, authority and gender, and the boundaries between truth and fiction. Documentary interviews with real people/couples expose their feelings, fantasies and anxieties about themselves and their partners. As the interviewers respond to seemingly simple questions in public space ("How often do you have sex?", "Do you ever fake an orgasm?", "What do you want more of during sex?") We follow the lives of six fictional characters to seek the answers in their private space. As the issues being probed gets deeper and more personal, the boundary between the fictional narrative and real interviews gets increasingly blurred till we reach a point of eerie doubt. What is fiction and what is reality? Which one is more exciting? Which one is more real? Is fiction separate from reality? Or, are they just different perspectives of some non-reality? It takes a no-nonsense look at sexuality in urban Indian context for the first time; the sexual content is devoid of any vulgarity, it is in the context and in the language content; any nudity/semi-nudity is being treated strictly in a matter-of-fact manner. It is being made as an irreverent cult-film with unique treatment (non-linear structure, reverse motion story-telling, split screens, multiple non-synced soundtracks, etc.) for the first time in Bollywood. Following are the excerpts with the creative team of Artiskinky Motion Pitures:
Here is an excerpt from a Chat with Director Kallol Szezn
What inspired you to make this movie?
This film is based on urban relationships that I am comfortable with, because that is what I have seen. Secondly the sexuality part it is a subject, which concerns me a lot in the sense, I feel very strongly about the hypocritical standards of society that we have. Sex is something that is close to us we do it regularly but still don’t like talking about it. I want to shake up people, and say hey wake up it is normal just like having your normal food then why make a big issue of it. |
