What is your character in the film? Was it difficult playing him?
My character is this regular guy who has this knack to get into trouble. He’s also someone who loves life. He is someone like you and me. Initially there’s no mystery about him but as you go along with the movie you get to like him for all his faults. Even though he is doing lots of wrong, you still empathize with him. It’s very easy to play black or white but it’s not so easy to portray someone who actually has something silly about him that you like.
Did you have any apprehensions about working with a new director for your debut film?
Initially, I didn’t know Imtiaz so well. In a few days, he gave me the narration of the film and he was really good. I was really hoping that he’s as good in the execution as he is in story telling. And then I remember that we clicked really soon. And even before we started shooting, I felt that this is it. This is the guy who’s going to make a great film. I am very glad that it has worked out for both of us.
