It is almost a month into 2003 now, and still the cash registers are not exactly tingling in Bollywood. Of all the films released in January, not a single one has been able to even recover its costs forget making any profit. Both 'Kaante' and 'Saathiya' released in December are making decent money, but even then all hopes are now high on the forthcoming movies this year. Unlike last year there is no 'Devdas' in line this year around, but there is news that some really fresh independent movies, and the Rajshri extravaganza 'Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon' would be ready for release.
Let's take a look at what the rest of year 2003 has in store for us:
Kucch To Hai
Balaji productions presents another Tusshar-Esha starrer which is based on the Hollywood hit, 'I Know What You Did Last Summer'. The songs are steadily climbing the charts, and Ekta Kapoor is seeing to it that her brother makes appearances on every other award show possible. Will it chill the audience or will the audience give it a cold shoulder is yet to be seen.
Dum
The buzz word these days is 'Vivek Oberoi'. He's not Hrithik Roshan, yet his acting in Company and sensitivity in 'Saathiya' was enough for everyone to sit up and take notice of this young guy. After playing a lover boy, he's all set to play an angry young man in Dum directed by Ram Gopal Verma's assistant E Niwas (of Shool fame). Diya Mirza plays his love interest, does it interest you?
Satta
Move over Tabu, Raveena is here to prove that she too can act, seriously. Madhur Bhandarkar (of Chandni Bar fame) directs a social drama surrounding corruption in politics. The film is set to be hard hitting and every one is already raving about ravishing Raveena's new look.
Sandhya
Jackie Shroff returns as a producer in a thriller directed by Sangeeth Sivan. The promos have been around for quite some time now, and the movie is scheduled to release during the cricket world cup. Let's hope that Sandhya doesn't meet the same fate as his last production.
Escape From Taliban
After taking a break from the media scene, Manisha Koirala now returns with 'Escape From Taliban' which is based on the real life story of Sushmita Bandopadhyay who victoriously escaped from the terrible clutches of the Taliban. Manisha claims it is her most sensitive performance ever. Let's watch and decide.
