A Beautiful Mind
Black was the colour of the night, as African Americans ruled the roost at the 47th Annual Academy Awards. Denzel Washington and Halle Berry claimed the coveted, 'Best Actor', and 'Best Actress' trophies for their outstanding roles in 'Training Day' and 'Monsters Ball' respectively.

The major fight this year was clearly between the epic 'Lord of the rings: fellowship of the ring' and the dramatic true life story, 'A Beautiful Mind'. Both the films bagged equal number of awards. The major upset was in the 'Best supporting actor' category where Sir Ian Mckellan as the gray wizard Gandalf was posed to win the award, which however went to another British actor Jim Brodbent for 'Iris'. Jennifer Connelly for 'A Beautiful mind', which was a sure, shot victory. By the end of the show, both 'A beautiful mind' and 'Lord of the rings' had 4 Oscars each in their kitties. The show was hosted by another black artist, the charming and humorous Whoopi Goldberg who took quite lot of digs at her fellow actors. Sidney Poitier and Robert Redford were the recipients of the honorary Oscar awards for lifetime achievement.
