By Kshama Rao Š2004 Bollyvista.com

Raveena Tandon
Recently at the press conference to announce the launch of Sahara TV's 'Sahib, Bibi, Ghulam', Raveena Tandon who plays Chhoti Bahu, a la Meena Kumari, came all dressed in costume. A shimmering yellow, red and gold sari, a long diamond-studded mangalsutra and the sindoor looking pretty in her forehead. That she looked appropriate keeping in mind her recent marriage added charm to her presence. Looking ravishing as ever, Raveena fielded questions from eager press and electronic media not before talking to us in the privacy of her hotel room. Over dal and chawal, Raveena let her guard down about Anil Thadani the man in her life. That she's gained a "little weight, even my mom noticed it" and that every time she speaks about him, there is that unmistakable twinkle in her eyes makes it quite obvious that Raveena Tandon is over the moon. "It's not yet sunk in. I'm still dreaming about my marriage in Udaipur. It was all so beautiful. That I'm married now is a great feeling. I can't express it in words. You know what, Anil and I have become inseparable. Just yesterday he was complaining to my daughters (her adopted ones) that their bua doesn't have time to go on a date with him. Arre, even a few days before my wedding I was running from one studio to another, shooting and dubbing for my films. It was sheer madness. I just couldn't look enough into my wedding preparations. Some people didn't even get my wedding cards. It was crazy man, very hectic but at the end of it, a memory I'll always cherish." So is that Raveena Tandon-Thadani speaking? "That would be a long autograph? Right now it's still Raveena Tandon though my signature has changed on my bank documents. I was telling Anil the other day that it's not so easy to drop my father's name, which has been associated with me for such a long time now." Ask her if she's calling it quits with films now and she shakes her head. "No but I'd do only films that suit my age and maturity. You can't expect me to compete with today's heroines, wearing bikinis and dancing on rocks! No way, I have never done that and I never will. I come from a middle class family and I hold my middle class values dear. I have refused big films and banners because I didn't want to do things that would embarrass my family. My family has always been the first priority. I don't even hold Anil's hand in front of my parents. As it is I have always been a reluctant actress, have never been ambitious." While Raveena has four films due for release she's talking to some "interesting makers about the other four but let's see if I'll eventually do them." She's quick to deny that her husband has got anything to do with her career moves. "He always tells me do what you like." Ask her if he's seen any of her films and she says, "Yes, just the other day we were watching this old film of mine called 'Taqdeerwala' or some such in which I was dancing to some hideous 'kya jeans hai, pant hai' number. We were laughing our heads off." She says laughing, "You know the only good thing that came out of me producing 'Stumped' was that I met Anil. The film bombed badly but I met my life partner. I was in Tirupati where I had put some audio or video caseette of 'Stumped' in that auspicious handi and out came Anil! God must have thought I will give her something more than just a hit film!" So is she going to start a new family? "I guess so. We both are looking forward to it." Amen!
