You have known him as the VJ Yudi from Channel [V]. And like all veejays, Yudi has signed a film. Has he reached his destination? Hmmm... might have. Will he sustain? Let's wait and watch.
Soon, he will make his film debut as the lead protagonist of the film 'Chakravyuh' which is to be edited and directed by Kitu Ghosh who has won several international awards previously in the short film format. Asif Basra (who also appears in the famous teleserial 'Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin' on Sony TV) will essay the negative character. Cinematography is by Vishal Sinha (of 'Bhoot', 'Darna Mana Hai' and upcoming 'Ab Tak Chhappan' fame).
In a heart-to-heart chat with Vickey Lalwani at 'Rain' (the trendy lounge bar in Juhu, Mumbai), he relives his past, analyses his present and dreams about his future.
Why films now?
Veejaying is a short term career. I think entering films was the next logical thing to do.
How did 'Chakravyuh' happen?
I knew Kitu Ghosh. Once upon a time, I had casually told him that I was interested in entering films. A year later, he came up to me with a lovely script and asked whether I was still interested. I was floored.
Is 'Chakravyuh' the first project that came to you?
No. There have been offers, but I didn't want my first splash to go unnoticed. I wanted meat, not fluff. So I played the waiting game. For instance, I was offered Kalpana Lajmi's 'Kyon?', but I refused. With due respect to Lajmi who has made some wonderful films in the past, I had a gut feeling on hearing the script that 'Kyon?' would not click.
What is 'Chakravyuh' all about?
'Chakravyuh' is all about boxing, it showcases the ultimate contact sport of boxing, which millions flock to see, the battle, where two gladiators fight each other till one drops.
