Manisha Koirala, it's heard, has given some testosterone-testing scenes in director Aruna Raje's film titled "Tum? - A Dangerous Obsession", with new-comer Karan Nath. The film is supposed to be shot within decent limits but there are certain erotic fantasy sequences that are to be seen to believed, they say. Manisha has the role of a married housewife, who is the subject of affection of a fashion photographer, played by Karan Nath, who is absolutely obsessed with her and keeps fantasizing about her even when he is with his girlfriend (Netanya Singh)! Big deal!
Can we divert ourselves from the Controversy Queen ('Ek Chottisi Love Story', 'Indira Gandhi- A Tryst With Destiny', 'Aryan Vaid') and spare a thought for the beautiful and shapely Deepti Dariyanani?
Vickey Lalwani caught up with this 21-year old. Excerpts from what transpired thereafter:
Your second film 'Tum? - A Dangerous Obsession' is nearing release. How did you get this one?
Well, I had just gone through an audition. And it happened.
Your role in 'Tum? - A Dangerous Obsession'?
It's a meaty role. I play Manisha Koirala's daughter. I play an aspiring model, born and brought up in a loving family. I am in awe of the modeling world, very keen to make it. Due to my strong aspirations, I land up in trouble.
You get pregnant?
(Laughs) Nothing like that. Could we keep this under wraps? The film is a thriller.
If you insist. But tell me; were you happy with your debut launch 'Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai'?
Hmmm... it was okay. Initially I thought the role had good scope. But the final output turned out to be a bit different from the narration. Plus, looking back, I think the boys had better scope than the girls in the film. It didn't make the right impact for me, but it didn't go against me either. Chalta hai.
How did 'Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai' happen?
That's a short story. Actually, I am a Kolkata girl from a business background. I did quite a lot of theatre, there. I even participated in Gladrags. I won from Eastern India, owing to which I was sponsored for the National Finals. After staying in Mumbai for a few days, I got a lot of ad offers. But I went back, thought over it, and decided to come and give it a shot. Ads like- 'Stayfree', 'Kelvinator' and 'Frooti' among many others, started happening.
I had worked with Ad Media for a series on 'Reki' which was featured on CNBC. Ad Media informed me that Harry Baweja was looking out for fresh faces for his new film 'Yeh Kya Ho Raha Hai'. That time I was in Mumbai for a few ads. I auditioned for the film. That's it!
If you had stayed back after Gladrags and not gone home to Kolkata, perhaps things would have been better?
Definitely. But then, I didn't want to leave my education midway. I had to give a few of my papers in order to complete my graduation. A few months, here or there, really doesn't matter. I am confident of making it big in Bollywood. I am going to work very hard, without any 'nakhras'.
Are you ready to don skimpy and revealing outfits, which seem to have become a criterion for survival in Bollywood?
I don't mind, as long as the director has convinced me about the requirement for his film. If I am not convinced, I will put my foot down. Anyway, I am very comfortable with my body.
Envious of star daughters and beauty queens getting films in their lap?
Yeah, they get a flying start, plus several chances to prove themselves. But it's okay.
How was it working with Manisha Koirala?
Lovely. She would help me in several ways, even in my make-up. No starry tantrums. Very friendly person.
What else is happening in life?
I am learning kick-boxing. It's awesome. No one should worry. I am not out to kick someone. I am appearing in a series titled 'French Docu' which has been shot showing a new India, it portrays India in progressive light, it would be telecast in Arte- a channel in France. |
