Kalpana Lajmi is quite peeved about the manner in which some stars have taken to her film 'Sinhasan'.
"Strange are the ways of most males in our film industry," she tells Bollyvista.com, "Ajay Devgan 'latkofyed' me for a long time, Akshay Khanna and Akshay Kumar refused the film saying they don't want to work in a heroine-oriented subject. Ditto for Aftab Shivdasani who didn't even give a reason. You will be surprised to know that even Atul Kulkarni refused, he said that one woman-oriented film 'Satta' was enough for him."
But didn't some females back out too- Manisha Koirala, Dimple Kapadia?
They didn't back out. Here if you even talk to somebody about doing your project and if he/she takes even a day to say yes, next day the press carries the news that so-and-so has been approached by so-and-so. I don't know who are the pigeons who fly to newspaper offices. Two days later if the actor/actress has still not sent his/her reply, the press writes that the actor is not doing the film. Isn't this ridiculous? Besides, many times these days, we 'have to' speak to more than one actor. Today's actors have lots of 'nakhras' and 'nataks'. They keep dilly-dallying even if they don't want to do it. The maker is kept in the dark for a long time. Naturally, he is tempted to ask someone else. Many actors take six months before they give us an opportunity to meet them. The casting process is not as easy as it seems. Coming to Dimple and Manisha. I wanted Dimple, but no producer was willing to back her. I wanted Manisha and I got a producer to back her, but soon, he developed cold feet. Then I even spoke to Karishma Kapoor.
