MANISHA KOIRALA IN A HEART-TO-HEART!
By Our Correspondent ©2003 Bollyvista.com

MANISHA KOIRALA
Manisha Koirala never ceases to enthrall, as an actor and human being. And now she's donning another hat - of a producer. Her personal life has also been the subject of much speculation. In an interview, she bares her heart, honestly and genuinely, like always:

What are these rumours about Aryan Vaid and you seeing each other?
I don't know where all this originates from. It's really quite amusing to hear these stories. Aryan was my co-star in 'Market' and he's been a good friend. We worked well. As of now I'm still with Cecile (Anthony) and we're in the process of discussing our long-term plans. By the end of this year a clear picture will emerge. Let's see what destiny has in store!

Tell us about your foray into production?
I've always wanted to produce films and it's the next logical and creative graduation, so to say, after acting. After a point, acting becomes a bit stagnating. I've done my fill of commercial roles, worked with fantastic makers and actors. Of course, that doesn't mean I'm done with acting! I'm not! Acting is my passion and I'll never leave it! In fact I have some really interesting projects in hand and offers keep streaming in every other day. But you have to move on. Production's taught me a lot. It's been a real learning and challenging experience. Very often as artistes we don't realise the trauma and tension a producer has to go through. As I sit on the other side of the fence now, I know exactly what it feels like to be one!

Name your forthcoming projects?
My home-production 'Paisa Vasool' with Sushmita Sen. Then there's 'Anjaane' (with Sanjay Kapoor & Tejaswini Kolhapure), 'Tum' (with Karan Nath and Netanya Singh), 'Mehbooba' (with Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgan). 'Indira Gandhi' will start soon. So I have enough on hand as you can see.

Is it true that 'Paisa Vasool' has gone over budget?
Yes, I have gone over-budget but honestly I can’t put any figures down on paper because post-production is still on. Sushmita had a bad back, I met with an accident. These things happen. They are unforeseen. That's why I told you that a producer's job is not easy!

What was the experience of acting in your own movie like?
Ideally, I would like to avoid acting in my own movies. I would much rather concentrate on the production aspect. It's a specialised and time-consuming task. If you act and produce, one of the aspects is bound to suffer.

You've given Sushmita a better role in 'Paisa Vasool'. Why Sushmita?
Why not Sushmita? (Laughs) She suited the role. She is an extremely hardworking, committed and ethical human being. What more can a producer ask for? On a personal level, I respect her as well. She's focused and fiercely independent.
