The mega success of Bend It Like Beckham has definitely put Gurinder Chaddha in the big league. The UK based filmmaker is all set to launch her new movie and this time she is going big!
Chadda's new movie, which is said to be based on Jane Austen's classical novel Pride and Prejudice and goes by the same name as the novel, already looks like yet another winner at the box-office. News is that Gurinder has roped in Santosh Sivan as the cinematographer for this film. She has also managed to pull a casting coup of sorts that Indian cinema has not seen in a long time. Reportedly, Chaddha has roped in Bollywood's marquee queen Aishwarya Rai to play the lead role in this film. Playing the male lead will be Hollywood star Joaquin Pheonix. Phoenix had enthralled the audience with his performances in Gladiator as the villain Caesar and more recently in Signs as Mel Gibson's brother. That's not all - if sources are to be believed Chadda has another ace up her sleeves in Farhan Akhtar, who has been signed to write the lyrics for the film.
Wow! By roping in Ash, Joaquin, Sivan and Farhan for one single project, Chadda has already won half the battle at the box-office and hopefully the other half will be won when the film comes out in 2004. |
