Wife of Amol Palekar, Chitra Palekar's Maati Maay won the Prix du jury Graine de Cinephage Award in the feature films category, at the recently concluded 30th International Film Festival - Films de Femmes of Creteil, a suburb of Paris in France.
A large number of people, consisting of filmmakers and cine lovers, especially the youth who found it extremely moving and beautiful, attended the screenings, which was especially sub-titled in French. This is fourth international award won by Maati Maay.
Maati Maay (a Grave-keeper's Tale) is based on a short story (Baayen) by the well-known writer Mahasweta Devi bases. It is the heart-rending tale of a young mother who is trapped between her instincts, needs and the compulsions of her ancestral duty as dictated by the social system. Produced under the banner of DNYA Films, the film is directed by Chitra Palekar and features Nandita Das, Atul Kulkarni and Kshitij Gavande in key roles. |
