SONY BMG has finally acquired what was really theirs - the music rights of the much acclaimed film Jannat – In search of Heaven produced by Vishesh Films. Post a much hyped legal debate between T-Series and Vishesh films, T-series withdrew its legal claims and both the parties have settled the issue amicably with the intervention of Mr. Pahlaj Nihalani (President, AMPTPP) and the Dispute Settlement Committee members.

Sony BMG had always claimed that the music rights of Jannat belonged to them, however it had to be put under the scanner after a competing music label claimed similar rights.

A compromise has been reached between T-Series and Vishesh Films (the production house) in which T-Series had to withdraw its claims on the music rights and other accusations thus handing over the exclusive rights to SONY BMG.

In recent times, the legal issue for the music rights of Jannat is one of the most hyped cases – and understandably so. There were 2 major reasons why both SONY BMG and T-Series would have left no stone unturned to get the music rights of Jannat – first being Vishesh Films and second being Pritam.

Vishesh Films is known for belting out musical superhit albums – from classics like Aashiqui and Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin to recent hits like Raaz, Murder, Zeher, Woh Lamhe and Gangster. In the recent past, Vishesh Films has been working only with T-Series and Saregama. With Jannat, Vishesh Films has taken their first step with SONY BMG as a long term music partner.

Secondly, the music of Jannat, which has been composed by Pritam – who has had a string of hits last year like Jab We Met, Bhool Bhulaiya, Dhoom 2 and many more chartbusters. The music of Jannat is touted as one of the best ever – both from from Vishesh Films and Pritam.

With the legal dispute being sorted out, SONY BMG will now leverage maximum clout with aggressive marketing and promotions.
