Buzz is, Shabbir Ahluwalia and Sunil Shetty are remaking the popular 'Johny Mera Naam' (belonging to Gulshan Rai), which starred Dev Anand and Hema Malini.
When contacted, Rajiv Rai (Gulshan Rai's son) said, "I am a bit confused. Should I give away the rights or not? On one hand, I don't want to say no to them, especially Shabbir to whom I am very close. On the other, I want to be doubly sure that they will make a better version than the original or else it will reflect badly not only on them but on me too. Plus, I myself have got four to five offers of directing a remake on 'Johny Mera Naam'. I haven't yet given it a long thought. Let's see. First, let Abhishek Bachchan confirm with them if he is doing the film."
Shabbir and Sunil are talking to Abhishek to play Dev Anand's role. Rai will decide in the next 20 days.
Meanwhile, Rai is working on a political thriller. "It's about an Indian in 1939. Something happened to him in the UK. I will be shooting about 30 per cent of the film in North East India and the remaining portions in the UK," he says. However, no Indian actors will be acting in the film. Rai wants an all American cast. |
